A geomembrane is very low pemmeability synthetic membrane liner or barrierused with any geotechnical engineering related material so as to control fluid (orgas) migration in a human-made project, structure, or system.Geomembranesare made from relatively thin continuous polymeric sheets, but they can also bemade from the impregnation of geotextiles with asphalt,elastomer or polymersprays, or as multilayered bitumen geocomposites. Continuous polymer sheetgeomembranes are, by far, the most common.

At present, the geomembrane materials are mainly polyvinyl chloride (PVC),polyeth-ylene (PE), EVA (ethylene / vinyl acetate copolymer), and the use ofECB (ethylene vinyl acetate modified asphalt blended engineered membrane intunnel applications ). They are a kind of high-molecular chemical flexible materialwith a small specific gravity, high adaptabil- ity to deformation, corrosionresistance and good freezing resistance.

Geomembrane is mainly divided into low density polyethylene (LDPE)geomembrane, high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane and EVAgeomembrane. Raw materials are divided into recycled materials and virginmaterials.
